Equipment Operation and Maintenance

(1) Before using the equipment, check if the tightening screws are loose and if the clamping dimensions conform to the specifications in the manual. If they do not meet the requirements, evenly tighten the bolts to achieve the specified dimensions.

(2) When the equipment has not been used for a long time, a hydrostatic test should be conducted before use. Test the pressure on both the cold and hot sides separately, with the test pressure being 1.25 times the working pressure, and maintain the pressure for 30 minutes. There should be no leakage at any sealing points before putting it into service.

(3) When the equipment is used in food or pharmaceutical industries with high hygiene requirements, clean and disinfect the equipment before use to remove oil stains and foreign objects inside the equipment.

(4) When the working medium contains a large amount of sand or other debris, a filter should be installed before the equipment.

(5) The inlet and outlet pipes for the cold and hot media should be connected according to the markings on the clamping plate of the equipment. Otherwise, it will affect the operational performance of the equipment.

(6) When operating the equipment, low-pressure side liquid should be slowly injected; when stopping, the high-pressure side fluid should be slowly cut off first, followed by the low-pressure side fluid.

(7) After long-term operation, the plates may develop varying degrees of scale or sediment, which can reduce heat transfer efficiency and increase flow resistance. Therefore, the equipment should be opened periodically for inspection and cleaning. When cleaning the plates, metal brushes must not be used to avoid scratching the plates and reducing their corrosion resistance.

(8) Damaged plates should be replaced in a timely manner. If there are no spare plates available, under permissible operating conditions, two adjacent plates (note: the removed plates should not be reversing plates but should have four holes) can be disassembled, and the clamping dimension should be reduced accordingly (for BRO.35 type equipment, the clamping dimension decreases by 9mm per pair of plates removed; for BRO.5 type equipment, it decreases by 10mm).

(9) During maintenance, aged gaskets should be replaced, and fallen-off rubber pads should be re-adhered. When adhering, clean the gasket groove, apply adhesive, and firmly attach the gasket.

Equipment Cleaning

(1) Plate heat exchangers should be inspected regularly. When thermal efficiency significantly decreases or pressure drop changes noticeably, cleaning should be performed.

(2) The cleaning process can involve opening the equipment and rinsing each plate individually. If scaling is severe, the plates should be removed and cleaned flat.

(3) If chemical cleaners are used, they can circulate inside the equipment. For mechanical cleaning, use a soft brush; avoid using steel brushes to prevent scratching the plates.

(4) After rinsing the equipment, it must be wiped dry with a clean cloth. No foreign particles or fibers should remain between the plates and gaskets.

(5) After cleaning, carefully inspect the plates and gaskets for any issues and address them directly.

(6) During the cleaning process, if gaskets need to be replaced or reattached, ensure they are securely bonded. Before assembly, check that they are evenly attached and remove any excess adhesive.

Fault Handling

(1) Common faults that occur during equipment operation include leakage, seepage, and cross-contamination.

(2) Causes of seepage include insufficient clamping size, poor bonding of gaskets, and the presence of foreign particles or defects on the sealing surface. Depending on the situation, the bolts should be tightened or the equipment disassembled.

(3) If minor seepage occurs during operation, reduce the pressure to zero and tighten the bolts by 2-3mm each time, but not excessively. If tightening does not stop the seepage, the gasket needs to be replaced.

(4) If leakage or seepage occurs after long-term operation and cannot be resolved even after clamping, it indicates that the gasket has aged and should be replaced.

(5) If the equipment experiences cross-contamination, the cause is likely cracks or holes in the plates. Open the equipment and inspect the plates. Replace individual plates if they are damaged. If the equipment has been in use for a long time, consider replacing the entire unit.
